Please note the following about Eastview's Cable internet service: 1. The service is always on. There is no utility to call to set up service. 2. Set up your computer to automatically be assigned an IP and DNS address. 3. Your new POP (Incoming) Mail Server address will be mail.comcast.net 4. Your new SMTP (Outgoing) Mail Server will be smtp.comcast.net 5. Make sure that your operating system is updated with all security patches.
No less that Windows XP is acceptable. 6. Set your operating system to automatically update itself. 7. The Windows XP integral firewall is adequate. If you use another firewall
simultaneously they may conflict and keep you off the network. 8. CITES issues a free anti-virus program from McAfee. This or another
product must be active with a full-year subscription to updates. 9. There are free programs such as Spybot ( 10. Turn off any file sharing programs. If you are acting as a server you will take too much of the building bandwidth. Most of these programs share by default. 11. If you exceed approximately 500 mb per day uploading or downloading you may be disconnected and asked to subscribe to an independent service. 12. The purpose of Eastview's internet service is to provide general internet access for classes and browsing. When everyone uses it this way it works very well. |
